Purchasing Officer

Zammit and Cachia Marketing Ltd., a leading importer and distributor of nuts, dried fruits, herbs and spices and savoury snacks, would like to recruit a Purchasing Officer on a full-time basis.

The successful candidate will be working closely with other members of the Purchasing team, as well as the Logistics and Accounts departments.

The main duties and responsibilities will include:

• Negotiate with suppliers and clients with the aim of contracting the best possible buying / selling price levels.


• Maintaining close relationships with existing suppliers and identifying new potential sources within the same field.


• Compilation of costings for approval by management.


• Placing of purchase orders to ensure timely deliveries according to lead times.


• Ordering of goods and services as required, both locally and overseas.


• Monitoring of stock levels to satisfy sales demands, avoid out-of-stock situations whilst ensuring no overstocking of goods.


• Receiving and checking documents from suppliers such as invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, health certificates, etc., to ensure they comply with the contract in place and regulations.


• Follow up with freight forwarders on shipment loadings and expected arrivals. Co-ordinating with freight forwarders / hauliers / warehouse to determine delivery dates of containers.


• General office administration, such as data inputting, filing and processing of invoices for payment.


• Raising of complaints to suppliers and follow through when / if goods received are non-conforming to specifications ordered.


• Being familiar with ISO22000 requirements, although not a must as necessary training will be given.

The ideal candidate should:

• Have at least an A' level standard of education.


• Ideally have experience in a purchasing and logistic environment.


• Be fluent in both Maltese and English.


• Work on own initiative and with minimum supervision.


• Be a team player, friendly, motivated, bright, target oriented and can perform under pressure.


• Be proficient in the use of MS Office applications.

Remuneration package:

• This position comes with an attractive remuneration package commensurate with experience.


• Applicants will be given the necessary training and must be willing to learn.
