ROTA is seeking to hire a highly motivated, creative, and critical thinker who is passionate about all forms of communication and views messaging strategy as an integral part of increasing cycling and micro mobility in the Maltese islands.
This candidate will be comfortable serving as an ambassador for positive bicycle use and active mobility messaging. Under the general direction of the ROTA President, the Active Mobility / Bicycle Ambassador plans, organises, coordinates, and manages programs and activities for active transportation (bicycle, pedestrian, transit linkages) to administer the execution of the Active Mobility Ambassador Project and leads various related initiatives.
This position is fully funded by Atlas in the context of the Atlas Insurance Community Involvement and Development Fund.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Promoting Cycling Safety: promoting and advocating for safe cycling practices and educating cyclists and motorists about road safety rules within the Maltese islands.
- Encouraging Active Mobility: promoting cycling and other active mobility modes of transportation as means of commuting, leisure, and exercise to reduce congestion and pollution, and promote physical activity. This includes outreach activities at schools, companies, local communities, taking the form of talks, bicycle buses and basic maintenance workshops within the Maltese islands.
- Leading by Example: serving as a role model for responsible and courteous cycling behaviour, including obeying traffic laws and demonstrating good cycling etiquette.
- Public Speaking and Outreach: speaking at public meetings, schools, and community events to raise awareness about the benefits of cycling and encourage more people to take up cycling. Attend and actively engage in ad hoc television, radio and newspaper interviews and conferences.
- Organising Cycling Events: planning and participating in cycling events, such as group rides, charity rides, and bike-to-work and bike-to-school days to encourage community involvement in cycling.
- Providing Information and Resources: sharing information about local cycling routes, maps, safety tips, and resources available to cyclists in their area.
- Networking and Collaboration: building relationships with local government officials, community organisations, businesses, schools and other stakeholders to garner support for cycling initiatives and projects. The Ambassador will also engage with at least three ambassadors that, on a voluntary basis, will support in performing the tasks.
- Promote the Cyclo-Tourism sector in the Maltese islands: with the support of ROTA and relevant stakeholders, creating safe cycle tours and facilities to offer a valuable and sustainable alternative to visiting main tourist attractions in Malta and Gozo.
- Advocating for Policy Changes: lobbying for pro-cycling policies and regulations, based on the knowledge and evidence collected in the context of the project.
- Monitoring and Reporting Issues: identifying and reporting road hazards, infrastructure deficiencies, or safety concerns that affect cyclists to the relevant authorities or organisations.
- Evaluating and assessing the Active Mobility Ambassador’s Project: continuously evaluating the effectiveness of cycling initiatives and projects and providing feedback to improve their impact.
Requirements
- Ability to cycle and knowledge of the local cycling landscape and legal framework.
- Excellent communication skills and well-developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to speak to large audiences.
- Self-starter and ability to work independently.
- Experience with organising public awareness activities and outreach events.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work in accordance with needs.
- Understanding of narrative reporting and basic financial reporting.
- Effectively support team members in assigned areas.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in Maltese and English.
