Process Engineering Project Leader

Reporting to: Head of Process Engineering or Head of Operations

Job Purpose and Role:
The primary roles of the Project Leader are to:

• Design and optimise processes, practices, workflows and workstations in view of the overall goal of improving safety, efficiency, throughput times and quality using LEAN methodologies.


• Identify areas of opportunity for process improvements; research appropriate solutions and alternative process methods.


• Analyse and assess processes, take measurements and interpret data.


• Occasionally support production departments by implementing and handing over new production management systems related to process engineering projects.


• Design and build, with the support of the team, small jigs or semi-automated equipment related to process improvement.


• Participate in technical sourcing to support project proposals, budgeting and implementation.


• Prepare documentation and instructions concerning engineered process solutions.


• Oversee and control commissioning, operation and handover of new process equipment for production.


• Occasionally use skill set to assist other team members with assigned process engineering projects.


• Coordinate all project activities in close collaboration with relevant departments and internal clients.

The Project Leader, as part of the Process Engineering team, is expected to be able to work both as part of a task-force and occasionally independently, depending on the nature of individual projects. This role, being mainly project-based, requires the Project Leader to self-start and work on his/her own initiative, ensuring delegated work is scheduled and completed on time. As part of a team handling a variety of tasks, it is expected that the Project Leader and other team members support each other by applying individual areas of expertise as required.

Skills required to carry out duties:

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a LEAN production environment. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in LEAN project implementation.


• An engineering background or experience in design and building small automated equipment is preferred, but candidates willing to learn to use PLCs, pneumatics and low-voltage electrical equipment will be considered.


• Experience in process simulations will be considered an asset.


• A willingness to do both hands-on as well as analytical work, as project phases dictate.


• Able to work independently under minimal supervision, and in an organised manner.


• A problem-solving attitude, and enthusiasm for change.


• Excellent reading/writing skills in English.


• Experience using MS Office applications, CAD and ERP software.


• Familiarity with local health and safety standards / regulations will be considered an asset.
