The main purpose of the post is to:
- Be a member of a team of staff and teach designated courses and programmes;
- Teach and support students enrolled on ITS courses and programmes;
- Assist in the development of courses and programmes;
- Assist in the management and administration of the designated courses and programmes;
- Constantly meet deadlines set by the Institute’s management.
Main duties
- To teach a range of programmes in the area of specialisation and other related areas;
- Within contact hours, and as a temporary arrangement, teach any other subject for which one is qualified at Diploma level or higher or in which one has the appropriate experience;
- To deliver tutorials, on a one-to-one basis or in group sessions;
- To undertake all preparation and follow-up work related to one’s teaching duties as outlined above;
- To use and constantly update appropriate teaching methods and materials;
- To assist in the design and development of teaching material and learning resources;
- To assist in the drawing up of reports related to one’s area of expertise at the Institution;
- To liaise with the respective Head of Department to organise the delivery of the programmes and short courses and to assist in the preparation and completion of all documentation relating to the submission of programmes to awarding bodies;
- To monitor students on their industrial training and to supervise research work by all senior students;
- To participate in the setting and marking of examination papers and in the continuous assessment of student work, in relation to the courses and programmes thought;
- To assist the Head of Department in the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date programme portfolios containing those items stipulated in the Institution’s Quality Manual;
- To ensure that the delivery of all programmes and courses are in accordance with teaching and learning standards, as provided in the Institution’s Quality Assurance Manual, are met.
Ancillary duties
- To collect and provide required information about students, including students' attendance, assessment and general progress as requested;
- To attend meetings as required;
- To chair meetings for one or more teams as assigned;
- In the event of absence of another member of academic staff, to provide cover in the form of staff supervision and record students’ attendance;
- To be accountable for the proper use of staffing and non-staffing resources in the delivery of programmes and courses within one’s area of responsibility, within the terms of ITS rules;
- To liaise with external partners as necessary to ensure smooth operation of related agreements;
- To assist in the publicity and public relations of the Institute’s programmes and courses;
- To attend occasional parents’ meetings, careers evenings and non-circular functions up to a maximum of twenty (20) hours in any academic year. Attendance during Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays and any hours in excess of the established twenty hours will be remunerated at the established overtime rates;
- To carry out duties of the post with full regard to the Institution’s Equal Opportunity Policy;
- To perform other duties commensurate with the post that may, from time to time, be agreed upon by MUT and ITS.
Duties relating to student recruitment and student development
- To support the ITS Management with the induction of students as and when required;
- To assist in the recruitment, interviewing and induction of students;
- To assist in the conduction of questionnaires/surveys related to programme / course participants’ satisfaction;
- To assist students with their academic queries;
- To assist in the welfare of students and make the necessary referrals to the appropriate authorities.
Duties relating to academic staff development
- To undertake any in-service training or staff development carried out during normal working hours as deemed necessary by the Management in accordance with the Institution’s strategic aims;
- To participate in a personal performance appraisal process as required by the Management and the respective Head of Department on a number of annual performance objectives and on a personal development programme;
- To support ITS Management with the induction of academic staff as and when required.

- Assistant Lecturer Grade
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised qualification at Level 5 of the Malta Qualifications Framework and at least four (4) years of full-time relevant and appropriate industrial experience in a supervisory post or related teaching experience; Or
A relevant recognised qualification at Level 6 of the Malta Qualification Framework without lecturing experience. - New applicants qualifying for recruitment to this grade will be accepted on condition that they obtain a relevant and recognised teacher qualification pegged at MQF Level 6 within 5 years from the employment engagement date. New applicants will also be required to obtain a minimum MQF Level 6 qualification in their teaching subject area within 6 years from the date of engagement. Management reserves the right to terminate employment if the teacher training qualification is not obtained.
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised qualification at Level 5 of the Malta Qualifications Framework and at least four (4) years of full-time relevant and appropriate industrial experience in a supervisory post or related teaching experience; Or
- Lecturer Grade
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised first-degree qualification at MQF Level 6 and at least seven (7) years full-time equivalent industrial or professional experience or related teaching experience; Or
Be in possession of relevant recognised qualification at a Masters’ Level 7 of the Malta Qualification Framework without lecturing experience. - New applicants qualifying for recruitment to this grade will be accepted on condition that they obtain a relevant and recognized teacher qualification pegged at MQF Level 6 within 5 years from the employment engagement date. Management reserves the right to terminate employment if the teacher training qualification is not obtained.
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised first-degree qualification at MQF Level 6 and at least seven (7) years full-time equivalent industrial or professional experience or related teaching experience; Or
- Senior Lecturer I Grade
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised Master's degree at MQF Level 7 and at least seven (7) years full-time relevant industrial or professional experience in a managerial post or related teaching experience; Or
- Be in a possession of relevant recognised Doctorate at MQF Level 8 and at least five (5) years of full-time relevant industrial or professional experience in a managerial post or related teaching experience.
- New applicants qualifying for recruitment to this grade will be accepted on condition that they obtain a relevant and recognised teacher qualification pegged at MQF Level 6 within 5 years from the employment engagement date. Management reserves the right to terminate employment if the teacher training qualification is not obtained.
- Senior Lecturer II Grade
- Be in possession of a relevant recognised Doctoral degree at MQF Level 8 or equivalent and at least seven (7) years full-time relevant industrial or professional experience in a managerial post or related teaching experience.
- New applicants qualifying for recruitment will be accepted on condition that they obtain a relevant and recognised teacher training qualification pegged at minimum MQF Level 6 within 5 years from the employment engagement date. Management reserves the right to terminate employment if the teacher training qualification is not obtained.
