Research & Development Engineer

Carlo Gavazzi Malta is currently looking for a Research and Development Engineer.

With the revolution brought forward by industry 4.0, Carlo Gavazzi Ltd. is evolving its product portfolio by integrating industrial communication protocols within its solid-state relays and motor control products. We work closely with leading Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in diverse markets from plastic machinery, semiconductor equipment and HVAC to provide market-leading products that help our customers optimize their equipment as well as production efficiency. Aligned with the industry 4.0 and IIOT developments, we are delving into predictive maintenance and machine learning solutions to provide added value to our customers in different stages of the product lifecycle.

As an R&D Engineer, you will be working in a small team to develop early product concepts and prototypes and eventually the industrial product design. You will also be liaising with the Product Management and Product Sales Support teams to transform the commercial requirements into functional requirements to bring to the market leading-edge products that match our customer expectations.

Principal Responsibilities:

• Research new technologies and solutions to be adopted in the development of new and existing products for mass production


• Develop product concept and architecture to evaluate technical and business feasibility


• Design hardware and firmware for new products to satisfy defined commercial and functional requirements and in accordance with the set technical standards


• Verify and validate product prototypes to ensure that the developed product meets the set targets


• Conduct reviews on design tools, test methods together with superiors to identify areas of improvement


• Grow in expertise in assigned specialization according to the R&D roadmap and company objectives


• Provide technical support on new products to Operations and Product Sales Support

Main Requirements:

• Degree, preferably Masters level, in Electrical Engineering or Industrial Electronics Engineering


• Passionate about innovation, product development and its industrialization


• Proficient in structured and modular programming in C language for embedded systems


• Practical experience in embedded systems, particularly in deploying industrial communication protocols


• Visionary and creative thinker, who is able to adapt according to the results driving the target


• Team player, ready to contribute and find the right balance to reach the targets set for the team


• Quality and business conscious in every design decision required during the product development process


• Expertise in data analytics and design for manufacturing (DFM) are considered assets to this post
