Cloud Engineer

As a Cloud Engineer you need to continuously collaborate with product engineering teams on new requirements, lead implementations and ensure that our systems and services are resilience, secure, scalable, monitored and support daily ops. You will need to possess a high degree of technical skill, have a collaborative approach to problem-solving, is passionate about what you do and thrive in a challenging and dynamic environment. This position is a full-time post based in Malta, EU.

Your Challenge:

• Work with Engineering teams to build and manage distributed infrastructure, applications, monitoring and release pipeline through automation that is secure, scalable and reliable


• Build, implement and manage systems, infrastructure, applications and tools which allow us to operate at scale including robust failover and disaster recovery processes


• Act as a subject matter expert of the application and systems to be able to effectively solve problems across the entire stack – servers, application and network hosted on Azure platforms


• Continuously evaluate products, tools and solutions to enhance our platforms and processes to increase efficiency and sustain our availability goals and SLA’s


• Develop, configure and optimise service and application monitoring


• Maintain internal and compliance related documentation


• Participate in 24x7 on-call rotation

Skills Required:

• Able to quickly assess and solve complex technical problems in 24/7 environment, escalating as necessary


• Keen on efficiency and taking performance and scalability very seriously


• Strives to build and maintain highly available business-critical systems


• Experience in building and deploying high availability environments on cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS


• Very good experience with Windows / Linux OS for mission-critical environments


• Experience in TCP/IP network stack (including LB, firewalls, WAF, CDN’s and VPN)


• Comfortable with CI / CD pipeline and have managed integrated workflows using tools such as TeamCity and Octopus Deploy


• Ideally you have database experience (MySQL, MariaDB, MsSQL, Elasticsearch and Redis)


• Experience supporting multi-tier web application architectures


• Keen on improving product reliability, performance and scalability


• Great problem-solving skills and the ability to find root cause of issues through troubleshooting and participate in blameless retro’s

Bonus Skills (you get additional points if you have one or more of the following):

• Experience with running applications in containers and orchestration such as docker and kubernetes


• Experience in application and infrastructure monitoring, reporting and alerting such as NewRelic, ELK, Grafana and Prometheus


• Scripting and systems-related programming skills (Powershell, Bash, Python)


• Familiarity with Atlassian Suite


• Aware of current InfoSec best practices such as PCI, ISO27001, NIST


• Knowledge of incident, problem and change management following ITIL practices
