About The Role
The Engineering and Process Front Line Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision and coordination of the engineering technicians to ensure the reliable operation of production equipment and facility infrastructure at the Toppan Security Malta site.
The role supports maintenance operations across the manufacturing environment, ensuring that preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, spare parts management, and equipment certifications are performed in accordance with engineering standards and compliance requirements.
The Engineering and Process Front Line Manager will also support Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities, facility maintenance coordination, and energy monitoring initiatives, contributing to equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and compliance within a high-security manufacturing environment.
Main Missions
Process Improvement
Reviews, identifies and improves manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality yield improvement and efficiency via multiple methods such as the formal change control process.
Carries out process improvement, problem resolution, and project management through a comprehensive, systematic and documented approach.
Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes, including production flow, assembly methods and production equipment.
Deploying Lean Methods to facilitate events and drive productivity, and initiatives to transform targeted areas.
Driving a medium and long-term culture change in the local site aimed to identify and implement a Kaizen culture via the continuous improvement process of waste identification and reduction through the best utilisation of assets.
New Product Introduction (NPI)
Manages New Product Introduction transitions from design to production, coordinating manufacturing launch plans, establishing goals, training team members and evaluating results.
Manages product-specific trials upon request.
Team Leadership and Supervision
Provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to engineering technicians.
Coordinate technician activities and ensure effective allocation of maintenance tasks.
Ensure maintenance work is performed safely and in accordance with company procedures and compliance requirements.
Support technician development through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Maintenance and Technical Support
Support troubleshooting and resolution of mechanical issues on production machinery.
Coordinate corrective and preventive maintenance activities across production equipment.
Assist in maintaining high equipment availability and minimising downtime.
Facility Maintenance
Support maintenance and monitoring of facility infrastructure and utilities, including:
HVAC and air handling units
Compressed air systems
Electrical distribution systems
Building infrastructure and lighting
Coordinate maintenance activities involving external contractors and service providers.
Spare Parts Management
Maintain spare parts inventory according to the engineering department standards.
Monitor stock levels of critical spare parts for production and facility equipment.
Issue Purchase Requisitions (PRs) for spare parts procurement when required.
Support spare parts planning to ensure operational continuity.
Equipment Certification and Compliance
Ensure that all equipment certifications, inspections, and regulatory checks are completed according to the yearly schedule.
Coordinate certification activities with external service providers or inspectors.
Maintain documentation required for internal audits, compliance, and regulatory requirements.
TPM Coordination
Support implementation and follow-up of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) activities across the production floor.
Ensure technicians complete TPM inspections and maintenance checklists according to schedule.
Assist in monitoring TPM completion and identifying reliability improvement opportunities.
Energy Monitoring
Support monitoring of energy consumption and utilities performance across production and facility systems.
Assist in reviewing data from energy monitoring platforms to identify inefficiencies or abnormal consumption patterns.
Contribute to initiatives aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs.
Maintenance Planning
Ensure maintenance activities align with production requirements and operational priorities.
About You
You are / have:
3-5 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience.
Experience working with lean manufacturing tools and methodologies.
Experience in analysing Statistical Process Controls and Techniques.
Previous experience supervising or coordinating maintenance technicians is considered an asset.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, industrial or manufacturing engineering.
Green / Black Belt 6 Sigma certification desired.
License A and / or B is considered an asset.
Technical Skills
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Good understanding of industrial equipment maintenance.
Basic knowledge of facility infrastructure systems.
Leadership and Management
Ability to coordinate and supervise maintenance teams effectively whilst influencing other direct stakeholders.
People management skills are considered an asset, given that the role will have technicians directly reporting to it.
Organisational skills
Change management process capability: predictive, planning and follow-through.
Excellent organisational, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Project Management skills.
Problem-solving and analytical decision-maker.
Communication skills
Ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to read and interpret technical journals, specifications, international technical standards, etc.
Ability to manage direct and indirect reports whilst managing stakeholders within the site effectively, the group and / or 3rd parties.
