Garden Centre Customer Service & Sales Assistant

We are looking for a friendly, customer-focused, and proactive Garden Centre Customer Service and Sales Assistant to join our team at a garden centre. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with people, have an interest in gardening and outdoor products, and be committed to delivering excellent customer service while supporting the day-to-day running of the store.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer Service

  • Welcome customers warmly and understand their gardening needs and requirements.

  • Provide helpful advice on plants, gardening tools, fertilisers, and related products.

  • Assist customers with plant care, maintenance, and product suitability.

  • Build positive customer relationships and encourage repeat business.

  • Respond to customer enquiries and resolve issues professionally and efficiently.

• Sales and Product Knowledge

  • Promote products and recommend suitable complementary items.

  • Contribute to individual and team sales targets.

  • Maintain knowledge of new products, seasonal promotions, and gardening trends.

  • Explain product features and benefits to help customers make informed purchasing decisions.

  • Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell relevant products.

• Shop Floor Operations and Merchandising

  • Maintain attractive product displays and high merchandising standards.

  • Keep the sales floor clean, organised, and adequately stocked.

  • Monitor stock levels and report low inventory to the supervisor.

  • Ensure product pricing and signage are accurate and clearly displayed.

  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, and organising deliveries.

• Point of Sale and Payments

  • Process customer transactions accurately using the point-of-sale (POS) system.

  • Handle cash, debit card, and credit card payments responsibly.

  • Process refunds and exchanges in accordance with company procedures.

  • Package and wrap purchases appropriately for customers.

• General Duties

  • Assist with seasonal displays, promotional activities, and store layouts.

  • Water and care for plants displayed on the sales floor.

  • Follow company health and safety procedures.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations.

  • Participate in training sessions to develop product knowledge and customer service skills.
