Animal Care Assistant

The Malta SPCA is seeking to engage a reliable and compassionate individual to support its animal care team on a full-time or part-time basis. This role is ideal for candidates with a background or interest in animal welfare who are looking for flexible working arrangements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the daily care of animals, including feeding, cleaning, and grooming.

• Monitor the health and behaviour of animals and report any concerns.

• Provide support during veterinary appointments and behavioural assessments.

• Help maintain a clean, safe, and stress-free environment within the shelter.

Requirements

• Prior experience in animal handling, care, or welfare (formal or informal). Qualifications related to animal welfare will be viewed as an advantage.

• Strong sense of responsibility and attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

• Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends if needed.

• Good communication skills and a commitment to the organisation’s values.

Conditions

• This is a full-time or part-time position remunerated on an hourly basis.

• Engagement will be subject to the availability of shifts and shelter needs.

The shelter is open Monday to Sunday between 7:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and the role requires flexibility to work within these hours.
