Description

This pivotal role entails managing all aspects of customs operations to ensure the smooth and efficient clearance of goods through international border controls. The candidate will possess a deep understanding of customs regulations, trade compliance, and the intricacies of import procedures.

You will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with customs authorities and stakeholders to facilitate the swift movement of shipments while ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will oversee a dedicated team of customs clearance clerks, fostering a culture of integrity and efficiency.

In this role, you will analyse and implement best practices for customs processes, provide guidance on tariff classifications and duty assessments, and keep abreast of changing trade policies and regulations. Your strategic input will contribute to the optimisation of procedures, minimising delays and costs associated with customs clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the customs clearance process for imports

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant customs regulations and trade compliance laws

  • Develop and maintain relationships with customs officials and other regulatory agencies

  • Lead and train a team of customs clearance clerks to ensure efficiency and effectiveness

  • Assist in the preparation and submission of customs documentation and reports

  • Monitor and analyse customs practices to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction

  • Stay informed about changes in customs regulations and trade agreements affecting clearance processes

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in customs clearance or a similar role within logistics

  • Strong knowledge of import/export regulations and customs compliance processes

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with customs officials and clients

  • Proficient in customs documentation and reporting standards

  • Ability to lead and mentor a team while managing multiple projects
