Reporting to the HR Systems Manager, the HR Officer – Payroll will be responsible for processing payrolls for companies within the Farsons Group. This role includes handling all payroll-related matters such as onboarding and terminating employees, managing leave and absences, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of payroll system data, and assisting staff and management with payroll queries. Additionally, the HR Officer – Payroll will support senior management by providing reports on agreed KPIs and other HR data.

The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • The computation and payment of salaries, wages and pensions including for additions / deductions, overtime payments, allowances, N.I. contributions P.A.Y.E. as per standard procedures.

  • Maintaining records in the Human Resources information system and the payroll system.

  • Ensuring that time and attendance schedules are updated and closed before each payroll, including setting up employees on the devices to be able to punch in and supporting departments as necessary.

  • Preparing reports, data and research as required from time to time whilst ensuring the accuracy of the data prepared and carrying out checking procedures when necessary.

  • Processing information related to outsourcing services.

  • Supporting the end-of-year process for IRD submissions to CFR.

  • Supporting the payroll auditing function.

  • Filing and maintaining records and correspondence according to GDPR requirements and ensuring compliance with any existing and upcoming government regulations regarding employment.

  • Upholding confidentiality at all times and ensuring that necessary precautions are taken for the security of documents, in order to avoid access to non-authorised persons.

  • Supporting other HR processes as directed by the HR Systems Manager and Head of HR.


The chosen candidate will need:

  • As a minimum, a diploma in Human Resources or equivalent, together with an A' level standard of education.

  • Good and fluent writing skills in English and Maltese.

  • Previous working experience in an HR environment with a strong payroll background.

  • Effective communicator at all levels.

  • Good organizational skills.

  • ICT literate.
