The Restaurant Manager must thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a courteous demeanour with customers. The candidate must possess strong leadership skills and personnel management skills which should be accompanied by a customer service orientation and commitment to company values and image.

Responsibilities:

  • Address customers’ complaints to ensure their satisfaction and repeat business opportunities

  • Control operational costs and identify measures to cut waste

  • Create detailed reports on weekly, monthly and annual revenues and expenses

  • Counsel and discipline employees when and as necessary

  • Coordinate the work of staff members to ensure exceptional and timely food service delivery to customers

  • Delegate tasks to direct reports in line with skill, knowledge and ability; and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements

  • Ensure that relevant information is communicated to direct reports enabling them to effectively carry out their functions

  • Implement policies that will maintain future restaurant operations

  • Monitor stock inventory to ensure adequate stock is maintained, and to prevent wastage or abuse by staff

  • Monitor compliance with safety and hygiene regulations

  • Oversee the training of new employees

  • Promote the brand in the local community through word-of-mouth and events

  • Process payroll for all restaurant staff members

  • Review sales and beverage costs; reconcile any discrepancies in accounting and ensure proper cash management

  • Recommend ways to reach a broader audience (e.g. discounts and social media ads)

  • Regularly review product quality and research new vendors

  • Schedule staff members to ensure that all shifts are properly manned and that any staff shortages are addressed properly

  • Set targets and goals for team members and assist them in reaching these goals in a time efficient manner

  • Work collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders


Qualifications & Assets:

  • Ability to diffuse tense situations and resolve conflicts

  • Ability to make decisive decisions, delegate responsibilities and maximise resources

  • Ability to work variable shift pattern including evenings, public holidays and weekends

  • Attention to details, detail-oriented personality

  • Excellent computer, problem-solving, and customer service skills

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles, personnel management and marketing

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Restaurant Manager or similar role

  • Previous experience and track record managing people successfully

  • Proficiency with point-of-sale software
