The main duties of Deputy Registrar at the Court Services Agency include:
A Deputy Registrar will report to the Chief Executive Officer, the Registrars of Courts and/or their Assistants.
A Deputy Registrar may be required to work outside normal office hours.
Vacancies are available in both the Malta and Gozo Courts.
Salary and contract information
The post of Deputy Registrar is pegged to the Court Services Agency Grade 4. At 2024 rates, this is equivalent to €22,945 per annum, rising by annual increments of €502 up to a maximum of €27,463.
Subject to satisfactory performance, a Deputy Registrar shall progress to Grade 3 (at 2024 rates: starting salary of €26,028 rising by annual increments of €584 up to a maximum of €31,284) after eight (8) full years of satisfactory service in Grade 4. A Deputy Registrar will further progress to Grade 2 (at 2024 rates: starting salary of €28,379 rising by annual increments of €663 up to a maximum of €34,346) after ten (10) full years of satisfactory service in Grade 3, or after three (3) full years of satisfactory service in Grade 3 if in possession of a relevant MQF Level 6 qualification.
A Deputy Registrar shall also benefit from a non-pensionable allowance of €3,500 per annum.
Contract Type: Indefinite.
Probationary period: 12 months.
Qualifications and / or experience required
By the closing time and date of the call for applications, applicants must be:
i) Citizens of Malta; or
ii) Citizens of other Member States of the European Union who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters of employment by virtue of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or
iii) Citizens of any other country who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment by virtue of the application to that country of EU legislation and treaty provisions dealing with the free movement of workers; or
iv) Any other persons who are entitled to equal treatment to Maltese citizens in matters related to employment in terms of the law or the above-mentioned EU legislation and treaty provisions, on account of their family relationship with persons mentioned in paragraph (i), (ii) or (iii); or
v) Third country nationals who have been granted long-term resident status in Malta under regulation 4 of the 'Status of Long-Term Residents (Third Country Nationals) Regulations, 2006' or who have been granted a residence permit under regulation 18(3) thereof, together with family members of such third country nationals who have been granted a residence permit under the “Family Reunification Regulations, 2007'; or
vi) In possession of a residence document issued in terms of the 'Residence Status of United Kingdom Nationals and their Family Members in Malta in accordance with the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the Northern Ireland from the European Union and the European Atomic Energy Community Regulations'.
The advice of the Citizenship Unit within Community Malta Agency and the Expatriates Unit within Identità should be sought as necessary in the interpretation of the above provisions.
The appointment of candidates referred to at (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above would necessitate the issue of an employment licence in so far as this is required by the Immigration Act and subsidiary legislation. Jobsplus should be consulted as necessary on this issue.

a) Proficient in the Maltese and English languages; and;
b) Be of possesion ofconduct which is appropriate to the position; and
c) i) In possession of a recognized qualification at MQF level 5 (with a minimum of 60 ECTS / ECVET credits, or equivalent) or a recognized, appropriate, professional, comparable qualification, with regard to programmes commencing as from October 2003) in one of the following subjects:

ii) In possession of a recognized qualification at MQF level 6 (subject to a minimum of 180 ECTS / ECVET credits or equivalent, with regard to programmes commencing as from October 2003) or a comparable professional qualification.
Qualifications at a level higher than that specified above will be accepted for eligibility purposes, provided they meet any specified subject requirements. A Masters qualification at MQF level 7, or equivalent, must comprise a minimum of 90 ECTS / ECVET credits or equivalent.

- Attend civil and/or criminal court sittings as directed by the respective Registrars;
- Prepare the acts of the proceedings for court sittings and to see in advance that the acts of proceedings are complete and according to law;
- Tax and assess judicial bill of costs;
- Sign any act or document required to be signed by the Court Registrars;
- Ensure that all lists of court cases are affixed to the halls' noticeboards within the stipulated time;
- Make the necessary corrections ordered by the court on the judicial act itself;
- Collate Judgments, Decrees and other court orders;
- Transcribe judicial proceedings;
- Ensure that Judgments delivered are entered onto the IT Case Management system;
- Ensure that all Court inflicted fines are immediately registered in the IT Case Management system;
- Input and process data and work on Courts’ IT applications;
- Ascertain that the digital recording of evidence is transferred on any medium for onward transmission to transcribers;
- Perform duties which may be assigned to him/her by the Chief Executive Officer, the Registrars of Courts and/or their Assistants;
- Any other duties according to the exigencies of the Agency as directed by Chief Executive Officer.
