Introduction

Communication, leadership and decision-making skills are but a few of the traits required to become an effective manager. This Bachelor of Science in Management will equip you with the knowledge and technical skills you will need to excel in a variety of management careers.

The programme will take you through the principles of management and will help you gain an understanding of both current and emerging practices in this field. The topics you will cover include organisation studies, economics, financial management, project management and work psychology, amongst others.

The program prepares students for a career in management-related posts by developing knowledge and understanding of management discipline, encouraging critical investigation in related topics and developing independent personal development skills.

The overall course objectives are:

Knowledge:

  • Critically reflect on and appraise the utility of management theory, management functions, roles, systems and applications
  • Analyse management approaches in relation to managing projects and finance
  • Evaluate the importance of Leadership in managing a fast-paced business world in the context of leadership theory
  • Analyse the forces that lie behind the economics of business in a socio-political context
  • Interpret management models and their application in business settings
  • Evaluate the importance and effects of sociological trends and ethics on management

Skills:

  • Apply knowledge and understanding of management theory in relation to managing functions, roles and systems in the private and public sectors
  • Assess current issues and developments in the subject of management in relation to finance and project management theories
  • Critically analyse and apply leadership theories at your workplace
  • Apply research and management theories to practice
  • Apply knowledge of the effects and impacts of new sociological trends and ethics in your own workplace.
  • Communicate management solutions to specialist and non-specialist audiences

Competences:

  • Evaluate and apply subject-specific knowledge of the organisation including project management and work psychology
  • Demonstrate creativity and initiative in developing projects, processes and people in contexts requiring complex problem-solving
  • Assess the functionality of existing approaches towards managing finance and financial accounting
  • Critically examine the development of the management functions, roles, and systems
  • Develop, design and implement an undergraduate research project that integrates relevant literature and appropriate methodologies with the purpose of addressing specific issues
  • Have developed those learning skills that are necessary to continue to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy

Prerequisites

Candidates who apply for this course must possess:

  • A qualification at MQF Level 4 (one ‘A’ Level or equivalent in any subject)
  • A pass in English and Mathematics at MQF Level 3 (‘O’ Level or equivalent)

Preference is given to applicants who have a year of work experience related to the field of study. Students whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate evidence of an adequate level of English proficiency.

Modules

You are required to complete all 23 compulsory modules (156 ECTS), and only 1 elective module out of the proposed 3 (6 ECTS), as well as the dissertation (18 ECTS) to fulfil the requirements of this bachelor’s degree.

How you’ll be assessed

This is a part-time course that will typically take 42 months to complete. The programme consists of a total of 24 modules. The method of assessment is assignment-based.

The course comprises:

  • 6 lectures per module (twice a week)
  • 3–hour lectures (evening)
  • 12 hours of guided learning, and presentations, comprising synchronous online discussions, tutorials and/or videos
  • Self-study hours comprising research, reading and assignment work
