Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Events Coordinator within the Sales department of the Malta Marriott Resort & Spa, part of Marriott International and one of Malta’s leading 5-star hotels.

Working within the Sales team, the Events Coordinator assists the Events team in maximizing catering and banqueting revenues for the hotel, through proactively uncovering new prospects / accounts and maximizing conversion of business in line with the hotel’s budgetary goals.

The Events Coordinator must demonstrate high energy levels and provide consistently high levels of customer service, in accordance with Marriott standards and programmes.

Essential Functions:

  • Representing Marriott Hotels worldwide, promoting the quality image of the company at every opportunity and uncovering additional leads for the Malta Marriott Resort & Spa.
  • Develop and maintain strong relations with the clients of Malta Marriott Resort & Spa.
  • Representing the Malta Marriott Resort & Spa, promoting the company at every opportunity and uncovering additional leads for the hotel.
  • Answering calls professionally and getting back to clients in a timely manner.
  • Proactively prospecting new accounts for the hotel.
  • Maintain an effective filing system for the Events department, including a daily trace file, to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • To ensure knowledge and understanding of Opera Sales and Catering and PMS systems in order to be competent in issuing banquet event orders in detail and running various reports.
  • Work closely with the entire hotel teams and departments to ensure the smooth operation of all group and event activities within the hotel.

Requirements:

  • Candidate must exhibit strong personal confidence and good presentation skills, be organised and meet deadlines, willingness to learn continuously, have a structured approach to planning, be a team player and be able to work independently and under pressure.
  • Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and strong command of English, Maltese and preferably another language.
  • Good understanding of Opera PMS and Sales and Catering.
  • A diploma or higher in Business Management or similar related field would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a 4 or 5-star hotel would be considered an asset.
  • Be a team player.
  • Flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekends.
