Job Description

To assist the Lands Authority in legal affairs and representation of the Authority in all legal matters, including litigation, negotiations and all other legal matters as required by the Authority.

Main Responsibilities: 

  • To draft legal documents on behalf of the Authority.
  • To take a proactive role in ensuring the authority meets its obligations in terms of local legislation, EU Directives, and corporate governance requirements.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of Maltese and European legislation and provide the Authority with the required support regarding the interpretation of assigned legal documents.
  • To conduct and plan legal research on multi-disciplined aspects of the law.
  • To provide miscellaneous legal advice on various contractual and governmental obligations as directed or requested by senior management or other members of management.
  • To be involved in various issues relating to the protection of data and compliance with the relative act and provide the relevant legal advice.
  • To represent the Authority in any court cases as required.
  • To keep abreast with all international and local developments conducive to the LA’s regulatory functions
  • Represents LA in a positive and professional manner.
  • To tender advice with respect to the LA’s processes in the light of better regulation policies and to continuously develop processes to improve services in line with strategic objectives of the Authority.
  • To establish a good working relationship with other Directorates and Units.
  • Identify areas of improvement in LA and assist in creating and implementing solutions.
  • To take responsibility on matters related to the Unit: ensuring the provision of support services and equipment; providing training; planning, assigning, and directing work; carrying out evaluations; addressing staff individual needs and resolving problems.
  • To provide support to the Senior Manager and CAO as required and all other staff within the Authority as required.
  • Participate in meetings as required.
  • Research ways in which procedures can be improved and report to management. Set new standards and ensure their delivery.
  • To provide advice to LA on the laws regulating the Authority and the Government land.

Qualifications: 

  • In possession of a Law degree with Warrant to practice in the Courts of Malta and Gozo.

Or;

  • In possession of a Law Degree and in the process of obtaining said warrant by end of year 2024, to practice as an Advocate in the Courts of Malta and Gozo and one (1) year experience working in the legal field.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of the laws and regulations governing land ownership in Malta and Gozo, shall be considered as an asset.
  • Verbal and written communication in both Maltese and English.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Thinks and acts strategically.
  • Takes ownership, actions and manage to meet deadlines.
