Job Description

Main Job Purpose
To assist the Lands Authority in legal or notarial affairs and represent the Lands Authority in legal matters as required by the Authority.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with notaries and legal advisors both within the Authority, and externally.
  • Ensure that deadlines are adhered to through the planning and organization of work.

Legal:

  • To draft legal documents on behalf of the Authority.
  • To take a proactive role in ensuring the authority meets its obligations in terms of local legislation, EU Directives, and corporate governance requirements.
  • To demonstrate a good understanding of Maltese and European legislation and provide the Authority with the required support regarding the interpretation of assigned legal documents.
  • To keep abreast with all international and local developments conducive to the LA’s regulatory functions.
  • Vetting of files and working on recognition and redemptions according to our current legislation and schemes.
  • Participate actively on redemption contracts.
  • Other ancillary work such as the cancellation of hypothecs, correctional deeds, diritto di seguito, terminations, and evictions.

Notarial:

  • To represent the Authority in the signing of contracts in which the Authority is a party.
  • To draft legal documents on behalf of the Authority.
  • To carry out general notarial duties which include vetting, drafting, calculation of duty and documents and capital gains tax.
  • Drafting the publication of deeds and of private writings and to perform all duties as a Notary Public with the Lands Authority as better defined in CAP 55 of the Laws of Malta.
  • To supervise the post-publication of deeds procedure and see to the drawing up of all necessary documents in connection with such procedure.
  • To supervise the process of the drawing up of a notarial register as well as the collation, indexing and binding of deeds in volumes.
  • To advise on the procedural requirements for the publication of deeds.
  • To give advice on notarial matters and give the required input whenever required.

Essential

  • In possession of a Law degree with a warrant to practice in the Courts of Malta and Gozo.

Or;

  • In possession of a Law degree, and, in the process of obtaining said warrant, to practice as an Advocate or Notary in the Courts of Malta and Gozo, and one (1) year experience working in the legal or notarial field.

Skills

  • Good knowledge of verbal and written communication in both Maltese and English is essential.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced and changing environment.
  • Thinks and acts strategically.
