About the Job
We are seeking to recruit a Legal Counsel to join our Legal and Company Secretariat team. The successful candidate will provide support and advice on a wide range of Legal activities within the Group. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contractual documentation;
  • Advising on and drafting legal, and general Group policies and procedures;
  • Advising and assisting on company law matters, corporate governance matters and company secretarial matters for the Bank, as well as its subsidiaries;
  • Advising and assisting the Bank’s company secretary in relation to the preparation of board meetings, preparation of the AGM, and company announcements as are issued from time to time;
  • Undertaking research work as necessary for the Legal department and assisting other departments as may be required from time to time;
  • Advising on legal action to be taken in case of defaulting clients and liaising with external lawyers representing the Bank;
  • Reviewing of facility documentation and liaising with external lawyers preparing and/or reviewing legal documentation in the jurisdiction where goods financed by FIM are situated;
  • Ensuring compliance by the Bank upon receipt of requests for information by competent authorities on garnishees and/or other warrants;
  • Liaising with other departments and external notaries in the event that one of our customers passes away (causa mortis procedure);
  • Liaising with liquidators in the event of client / customers that have been placed in liquidation;
  • Advising and assisting the Bank on clients that are defaulting and liaising with external counsel on the matter, if required; and
  • Assisting the Head of Legal in the day-to-day legal issues.

Requirements:

  • 2 or more years of related work experience;
  • Law Degree (LLD or similar);
  • Good communication skills;
  • Proven ability to learn and to adapt to a changing environment;
  • Self-motivated and self-driven;
  • Excellent team player;
  • Organization and time management skills;
  • High attention to detail;
  • Fluency in English and Maltese; and
  • Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
