The Loader / Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation, loading, and unloading of baggage, cargo, and mail within the airport environment. This role involves operating various ground support vehicles and equipment while ensuring that all items are handled with care and accuracy, complying with airline and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Driving and transportation:
    • Safely operate ground support vehicles, including baggage tugs, cargo trucks, and belt loaders, to transport baggage, cargo, and mail between aircraft and designated areas.
    • Ensure timely and efficient delivery of items to and from aircraft, following airport and airline schedules.
    • Conduct pre-operation checks on vehicles to ensure they are in proper working condition.
    • Report any vehicle malfunctions or maintenance needs to the Ramp Supervisor.
  • Loading and unloading:
    • Safely and efficiently load and unload baggage, cargo, and mail onto and off aircraft.
    • Ensure all items are properly tagged, sorted, and handled to prevent damage.
    • Verify and count items against manifests to ensure accuracy.
    • Assist in the proper positioning of aircraft equipment, such as chocks and cones.
  • Safety and compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety regulations and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Follow standard operating procedures for driving, loading, and unloading to prevent injuries and accidents.
    • Participate in safety briefings and training sessions.
    • Ensure compliance with airport security protocols, including the maintenance of security clearance.
  • Coordination and communication:
    • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and flight crews to coordinate loading and transportation activities.
    • Work closely with other departments, such as baggage handling, customer service, and flight operations, to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
    • Provide timely updates on loading, unloading, and transportation activities to supervisors.

General Duties:

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of vehicles, baggage carts, cargo holds and loading areas.
  • Assist with ramp duties such as positioning chocks, cones, and other equipment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Ramp Supervisor or Manager.

Requirements:

  • Valid work permit.
  • Valid EU / UAE / Maltese driving license.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Experience is considered an asset.
