Job Description

Glosten, a leading naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy based in the United States, is expanding its operations in Malta. They are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Naval Architect to bring practical engineering expertise to their growing team.

The ideal candidate will play a critical role in designing new vessels, improving existing ones, and solving complex marine challenges. From initial feasibility designs to managing multi-year programs, this position demands robust technical skills, including hull form development, vessel structure design, stability evaluations, and performance assessments. Projects may also involve developing custom software to optimize solutions and automate analyses. Collaboration across disciplines and stakeholder communication are essential to delivering Glosten’s innovative and high-impact projects.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a maritime design environment; consulting engineering experience is preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with background in marine structures, hydrostatics, and hydrodynamics required (Master’s preferred);
  • A Professional Engineering (PE), Charter Engineer (CEng), Engineers Europe (EUR ING), Maltese Engineering Profession Warrant (ING) or equivalent professional engineering warrant in a relevant discipline is expected. Applicants that meet the experience requirements but do not have a professional credential may be considered;
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino3D, finite element analysis, Python, GHS, and other engineering software;
  • Expertise in maritime regulations, shipyard practices, and fieldwork (e.g., shipchecking, stability surveys);
  • Strong project management skills, including budgeting, team leadership, and client communication;
  • Technical expertise in hydrostatics, stability, structural analysis, and related disciplines;
  • Excellent English communication skills; fluency in additional languages is a plus;
  • Shipboard or shipyard construction experience is an advantage; and
  • Must be authorized to work in the European Union and hold a valid driver’s license and passport.
